How to Use This Calculator

Reference

This  calculator is a conservative planning tool. It subtracts the passenger, cargo and tongue-weight values you enter from the tow rating you enter, but that simplified comparison does not replace the manufacturer's configuration-specific  towing calculations or any GVWR, GAWR, GCWR, tire, hitch or trailer limit.

Numbers to Verify

  • Use the towing rating for your exact truck configuration β€” engine, drivetrain, axle ratio, cab and bed can matter
  • Check the Tire and Loading Information / certification labels on the truck
  • Confirm GVWR, front and rear GAWR, GCWR, tire ratings and hitch/receiver limits
  • Use the trailer's actual loaded weight whenever possible rather than dry or brochure weight
  • Count hitch or pin weight, passengers, cargo and added equipment against the truck's applicable payload/axle limits

Use This as a Planning Aid

  • This calculator does not certify that a combination is safe or legal
  • Do not exceed any OEM, axle, tire, hitch, trailer or component rating
  • Tongue/pin-weight targets depend on trailer type and manufacturer guidance
  • Use weight-distribution or sway-control equipment only when specified or permitted by the truck, hitch and trailer manufacturers
  • Confirm final loaded weights on a suitable scale when practical
